And people really - actually think that human nature is any different just because we now put the number "2" in front of the date of the year?
The reason many US households were sighing a collective "oh-crap" when the twin towers fell - wasn't only because of the immediate loss of life - but because of a firm, "gut-level" awareness that a very bored and heavily armed country - just got an earful of starting pistol. The actual start-time for the inevitable response was as irrelevant as the actual name of the target for those watching the TV on 9-11. The fact remained - that a chunk of this planet - had just pissed off a country, armed to the teeth, and ready for overkill.
Please. Don't act surprised at the results - don't bore me on your perspective or morals - and don't insult my intelligence by thinking a placard being waved, or a petition being signed is going to stop the ball from rolling down the hill. Because if there's anything the US is great at - it's overkill and confusion. Might be a firebombing in Dresden, could be the internment of US citizens of Japanese decent - but when there's an excuse provided to us - there's a wholly unique and overwhelming response. An attack on a remote shipyard on a mere island territory, ended with 2 of the first nuclear bombs dropped a few years later.
The end-results from a post-19th century homeland-soil attack - I will assure you - 5 years from now, is going to be very - very - interesting. And it's not going to matter what you think about the government, world affairs, the UN, local politics, geopolitics, religion, or whether Bill O'Rilley and the staff of Fox News are a bunch of dinks. The ball is now rolling. Heaven help anyone who doesn't live in the United States of America.
